My son had to go to hospital over Santa Claus?

Sounds like Santa needs to make a monthly call to your step son. Santa can call him and ask him how he has been doing and tell him that everyone acts up sometimes but its how you handle it. You know, give the kid some hope and keep him working hard. I would not tell him santa isn't real. He will be devastated.
