Painful tongue with bronchitis?

I was currently diagnosed with bacterial bronchitis at the ER today. The Doctor sent me home with a prescription for antibiotics and pain medication. However he did not comment or give me any information on why my tongue hurts. The left side of my mouth and tongue have been severally hurting for 2 days. More so my tongue and only on the left side. I can't eat or drink and it feels like I have had surgery in my mouth. The pain in unbearable. Any information on this? Is this common with bronchitis? And what could it be?
